The Searchable Inventory feature was introduced in Summer 2010 as an update to our current inventories. Many players had very large inventories that took forever to scroll through. At the time, many people were asking for inventory drawers to be introduced, but developers said this was a technical impossibility at the time and that they would instead look at other ways of making inventories easy to search.
With this they also brought the inventory tabs, allowing you to choose between furniture, clothes and other sections to filter out items you don't want to see and make it easier to find the items you are looking for.
